A Life Shaped by Glass

Born in Venice in 1957, Massimo Micheluzzi studied Art and Architectural History at Ca’ Foscari University, where his first course on Italian architect and glass designer Carlo Scarpa profoundly influenced his approach to design.

He began his career in his father’s antiques gallery, developing a sharp eye for beauty and detail. Micheluzzi’s passion for glass was sparked in the late 1970s during an apprenticeship at the renowned Venini glass factory. As a young photographer tasked with cataloging the Venini collection, he had his first encounter with the design and craftsmanship of glass, an experience that deeply resonated with him.

This early exposure inspired Micheluzzi to explore glass more intimately. Over the years, he collaborated with various glass artists and makers, eventually undertaking a rigorous apprenticeship. This pivotal moment marked the start of his personal creative journey as a glass artist in the late 1990s—a path characterized by continuous evolution and a commitment to mastering the material while staying true to its innate nature.

For more than 25 years, Micheluzzi has worked closely with his master glass blower, employing traditional Murano techniques and personally engaging in every stage of the creative process. By blending heritage and innovation, he has developed a uniquely modern aesthetic that respects and reimagines the timeless craft.

Deeply intertwined with the life, history, and art of Venice, Micheluzzi draws inspiration from the city’s watery landscapes and architectural heritage. His diverse body of work encompasses fluid organic forms, shimmering transparencies, opaque carved surfaces, intricate mosaic patterns, and striking sculptural designs, reflecting a seamless union of tradition and modernity.
